The benefits of diagnostic assessments for employed learners

Learners placed at incorrect levels of training struggle to cope and are set up for failure. This has a very negative effect on their self- esteem and is also a costly exercise for the company as the chances of the learner completing the learnership are very small.

Our diagnostic assessments are designed to determine a learner’s literacy and numeracy skills before training begins. They can be used

Being placed at the correct level will give a learner the best chance of achieving competence. The assessments indicate their ability using a 5 level rating: ABET, NQF1, NQF2, NQF3, NQF4. A map of training can be plotted for each employee and bridging advised where the skills levels are below the required level for a particular learnership. Our diagnostic assessments also determine whether a candidate could be RPLed for the fundamentals of the learnership. This indicates that they have the necessary skills in place to achieve competence at NQF3 (without training).

The benefits of diagnostic assessments for selecting unemployed learners

Our diagnostic assessments have become an economical but invaluable part of the selection process for applicants to learnerships for many of our clients. It is expected that someone with a matric certificate in English and Mathematics should cope well with the demands of a learnership. However, experience has shown that the possession of a matric certificate is not a good indicator of competence in either English or maths. Many matriculants do not have the necessary skills to be RPLed for the fundamentals and will struggle with completing the core and elective modules too.

Our literacy and numeracy assessments have a combined duration of 1 hour 45 minutes.
