Today is celebrated around the world as a day that gave workers’ from all fields fair working conditions.
Internationally, Workers’ Day marks events in history where different organisations fought for better working conditions and an 8 hour workday. Demonstrations started on the 1st of May in 1884 in America and quickly spread around the world as a day to celebrate worker’s rights.
Locally, we celebrate and commemorate the role that trade unions and labor movements played during the apartheid era.
